MMR Vaccine Autism Link Manipulated

One of our biggest health scares came from the controversy surrounding the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. A research paper with false data linked autism to the vaccine. After the paper was published and widely covered by the media, it was found that the author (Andrew Wakefield) had manipulated the research.

Following publication of the paper, MMR vaccinations dropped in the UK and Ireland. Of course, this led to an increase in the number of measles and mumps cases. These childhood diseases can have devastating side effects, including death and severe disabilities. How sad that we sometimes harm our children by trying to protect them. It’s extremely unfortunate when flawed research leads us to making the wrong decisions.

Children are dear to us at Patient Scrubs®. I originally created Patient Scrubs® for my husband. So many people contacted me about children’s Patient Scrubs® that I soon created a children’s line. It’s important to make dressing easy for sick and injured children. And, they deserve to stay covered during medical treatments as much as an adult.

I love helping children. It breaks my heart when we fail to protect our children. A 2011 article said linking the MMR vaccine to autism was perhaps the most damaging medical hoax in the last 100 years. It led to hundreds of needless deaths.

Sometimes, you have to dig a little deeper to find the best answer. When it comes to your children, ask questions and get second and third opinions. It just may save their life.
